Fab Lab

This guide is to demonstrate all of the available resources in Fant Memorial Library's Fab(brication) Lab(oratory) and how to use them.

Software

The following Software and training is available in the library:

3D Printing (Design Software)

  • TinkerCad is free 3D design software that is web-based. It is great for beginners and has interactive tutorials.
  • SketchUp is free 3D modeling software that is very popular and easy to use.
  • Thingiverse is a site that has 3D files already created. Search their large database to see if there is something for you

Open Educational Resources (OER - Free or Provided by the University upon enrollment)

Presentation & Graphics

  • Microsoft Powerpoint
  • Google Slides

Image Manipulation & Editing

  • Inkscape is a open source vector graphics editor.
  • Gnu Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) is an open-source photo editing software.

Design & Animation

  • Google Sites
  • Hitfilm Express

Paid Programs (limited use on library computers)

Presentation & Graphics

  • Adobe InDesign is desktop publishing software that can be used to create posters, flyers, brochures, magazines, newspapers and books. It is installed on 1 PC in the digital classroom, is available to students in the Graphic Design program.

Image Manipulation & Editing

  • Adobe Illustrator is a vector graphics editor. It is installed on 1 PC in the digital classroom, is available to students in the Graphic Design program.
  • Adobe Photoshop  is a raster graphics editor. It is installed on 1 PC in the digital classroom, is available to students in the Graphic Design program.

Design & Animation

  • Adobe Dreamweaver is a website development application. It is installed on 1 PC in the digital classroom, is available to students in the Graphic Design program.
  • Adobe Premiere Pro is a timeline-based video editing app. It is installed on 1 PC in the digital classroom, is available to students in the Graphic Design program.

Hardware

3D printing introductory training is available to anyone who would like to use the 3D printers - or by request.
