How to Create a Research Poster

Guidelines, tutorials, and templates for designing and printing your research poster

Before you Print

  1. Double check for spelling and grammar mistakes. We will print the poster as it is.
  2. Make sure your poster is sized correctly (i.e. standard poster sizes vary, but 36 in. x 48 in. is an example) and your images are not pixelated.
  3. Save your file as a PDF, and save it in multiple locations (preferably a cloud-based location).
  4. Give yourself enough time to have your poster printed. We ask for a 2-day turn-around from the time you submit to the time you get the poster.

Cost and Submission Process

The library offers large format printing of academic research posters for MUW faculty, staff, and students.

Prices: $20 per poster (regardless of size)

Students: Your charges will go through PaperCut to your Banner account.

Faculty/Staff: You may charge the amount to your department account.

Sizing:  The width of the printer paper is 36". We can print up to any amount high x 36" wide. For custom sizes under 36" wide, please let us know in advance.

Follow these guidelines to have a poster printed:

  • You may bring a PDF of your poster on a flash drive or upload it from your myapps/Cloud service account on our computer at the checkout/return desk. Sign in to Papercut using your portal ID and password.
  • Please allow enough time for the poster to print, especially if several posters have been submitted at once. We'll email you when it's ready to be picked up at the checkout/return desk.
  • Make sure your file is of adequate resolution and size to make a quality print (printing size must be set before you start your design!), and if we print for you, let us know the size.
  • Payment is due upon submission. Faculty and staff can charge to their department or grant account.
  • There are two kinds of poster paper: glossy and matte. Please choose which you'd like your poster printed on.
